Şile Villa

Turnkey construction of a two-storey villa in Şile, with its colonnaded veranda, roof viewing terrace and the long rectangular pool in the garden.

A façade close to the sea

In Şile a façade carries a different load than one inland: salt-laden, humid air shows itself quickly on a white surface. The coating system over the render was specified as a vapour-permeable but rain-resistant type; on surfaces that never get washed by rain — under the columns and the eaves — soiling starts fastest. Stainless fixings were used at the railing and joinery connections.

The roof terrace

A viewing terrace on the roof is the item that causes trouble later in villas like this: there is living space under a surface people walk on. The terrace was resolved with waterproofing independent of the tiled roof and its own drainage run; the finish sits on a ventilated layer above the waterproofing.

Pool and garden

The pool runs parallel to the long elevation and is finished with a white coping. The clipped boundary hedge and the existing pines were kept, and the pine roots left outside the pool excavation. The pool plant was housed in the space under the veranda, so no separate technical structure was needed in the garden.

Outcome
