Country Villa with Pool

A two-storey country villa in stone and render on a rural plot, delivered turnkey with its generous pool, curving stone paths and the timber-pergola veranda.

In the country, infrastructure comes first

The difference from an urban plot is simple: there is no infrastructure waiting. Water, power and waste water were run under the garden separately to the house and to the pool; the trench was opened once and everything went through it together. That is a decision taken so the garden does not have to be dug up later, and it has to be finished before any landscaping starts.

Elevation: stone and render together

The elevation uses stone facing and render together — stone at the plinth and the corners, render across the broad surfaces. The combination is common on country houses, but the line where the two meet is a water path: without a drip detail at the top edge of the stone, the render below stains within a few years. The junction was separated with a joint and a drip.

How the garden is organised

• The pool is not set away from the house but continues from the veranda; the barefoot distance is short
• Curving stone paths divide the lawn and link the parking area and the gazebo
• The gazebo is placed on the side that takes the hardest midday sun
• Parking sits inside the garden but off the pedestrian route; vehicles never cross the lawn

Outcome
